The Best Places to take photos in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Are you looking for the best places to take photos in Manhattan Beach? If so, check out this article featuring some of my favorite places to shoot in Manhattan Beach, CA.

THE manhattan beach pier

The iconic Manhattan Beach Pier is the most popular location for portrait photography in Manhattan Beach.

The most popular location to take photos in Manhattan Beach is the Manhattan Beach Pier. The leading lines of the pillars under the pier are fantastic to photograph and the pier itself provides much-needed shade for photographers on sunny beach days. For those of us who live here, the pier is a special place to spend time and of course to photograph! To learn more about the history of the Manhattan Beach Pier, click here.

THE GreenBelt

Often referred to as, “the wood chips”, the Manhattan Beach Greenbelt is my second favorite place to take photos in Manhattan Beach.

A common exercise location today, the Greenbelt used to be the site of the Santa Fe Railroad. It shuttled people between in the beach cities in the late 1800’s and was abandoned in the early 1980’s. The Greenbelt provides awesome foliage and lots of green. During certain hours of the day, the light hits the former railroad line beautifully. POLLIWOG PARK

At over 18 acres, Polliwog Park is a wonderful place to take photos in Manhattan Beach with lots of great locations and backdrops.

As a kid I spent a lot of time at Polliwog Park. Whether it was for Little League, playing on the old ship in the playground, or watching concerts in the park during the Summer months, this is the largest park in the city and a popular local family spot throughout the year. The park is massive and there are a ton of cool locations throughout the park for taking photos. To learn more about Polliwog Park, click here.

BRUCE’s BEACH

This small park is nestled by the beach off of Highland Avenue in Manhattan Beach. While it maintains a checkered past, locals love this park for it’s green grass and stunning beach vistas.

Bruce’s Beach is a gem in the South Bay. Running from Highland Avenue to Manhattan Avenue, the park is situated on a steep slope. The park itself is terraced with several different levels to take photos from. While some trees exist, the park is mostly exposed to the setting sun. The combination of green grass, few trees, and a vistas of Manhattan Beach make this park a local favorite. To learn more about the history of Bruce’s Beach, click here.

THE BEACH

Manhattan Beach has over 2 miles of sandy coastline that makes for fantastic photography.

The beach is a fantastic place to take photos at nearly any time of day or year. The beach itself is almost 500 feet wide and has a beautiful, fine sand that is comfy on the feet (in Summer the sand can get hot – use caution). The beach is lined with volleyball courts and picturesque lifeguard towers that make for great photography opportunities. To learn more about the city of Manhattan Beach, click here.

THE STRAND

A favorite for Manhattanites to get their exercise and dog walks in, the strand makes for some brilliant photography opportunities.

With over 2 miles of coastline, the Manhattan Beach Strand is a great place to take photos. In many areas it is lined with beautiful gardens and stunning views. While often crowded, some of my favorite photos have been taken along the strand and walk streets. To learn more about the city of Manhattan Beach, click here.
