Tanzania Photo Safari • February 2020

Day 1: Arusha

You’ll arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to begin your adventure. A driver will be waiting for you to help you with your luggage and welcome you (Karibu!) to Tanzania! You’ll be whisked away to your safari lodge to relax, swim, and mingle with the other guests. We’ll have a welcome reception and dinner. (D)

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

We’re up early to our Tanzania Photo Safari adventure! We’ll make our way to the home of the tree climbing lions of Tarangire National Park! The park is popular for elephants, lions, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, and more! We’ll have lunch at the lodge and have time to enjoy the scenic vista and enjoy some pool time and relaxation. We’ll gather late in the afternoon and head out on a sunset game drive.

After our sunset cocktail, we’ll head back to the lodge and prepare for dinner. This lodge has an amazing lounge and patio that overlooks a large portion of the park. We’ll bust out the tripods and shoot the stars and the amazing landscape under the night sky. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Tarangire National Park – Lake Manyara

After breakfast, we’ll board our custom safari Land Cruisers for a game drive en route to our next stop – Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara is known for its monkeys, baboons, hippos, flamingos, and more. We’ll have a picnic lunch at a scenic spot and have some time to walk around and explore the area on foot (it’s safe!). After our game drive, we’ll head to our Safari lodge to relax, swim, shower, and get ready for a gourmet feast. After dinner, we will have drinks, recap the day and unwind with some local entertainment. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Lake Manyara – Ngorongoro

After a relaxing morning, we’ll make our way into the crater.  It is the largest caldera on the planet and is amazing!! This is one of our guests’ favorite stops on the tour. It’s lush, green and teeming with wildlife. We’ll be there during Wildebeest birthing season and we may see a live birth if we’re lucky! National Geographic channel has nothing on this! After our scenic vista stop, we’ll head to our resort for some R&R! Once checked in, you’ll have time to relax, swim, nap, use wifi, or enjoy the beautiful property. We’ll have a wonderful dinner followed by cocktails. For those interested, we can dive into workflow and editing. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Ngorongoro

We’re up early to take advantage of the “golden hour” and head into the crater. We’ll spend the entire day following the lions, jackals, black rhinos, elephants and other wildlife. It’s quite common to see animals feeding and due to the confined nature of the crater the animals are easy to get to and we’ll be able to get up close for some epic photos. We’ll have a picnic lunch in the crater and after we’ll continue on searching for epic photos and tracking the animals for the best shots and the best light! After our long day, we’ll head back to our fabulous resort and unwind before dinner. For those interested, we can dive into astral photography or workflow and editing after dinner or we can relax and hit the bar. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Ngorongoro – Serengeti South

After breakfast, we’ll make our way to the Southern entrance of the Serengeti. The Serengeti is home to the migration that so many speak about. Well, at least a part of the year it’s home. We’ll catch up with the millions and millions of animals migrating North. Every second in the Serengeti is exciting. Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Giraffes, Wildebeests, Zebras, and the list goes on.

After our game drive, we’ll head to our Luxury Safari lodge to relax, shower, and get ready for a gourmet feast. After your shower join us by the campfire for a beverage before our fabulous dinner. After dinner, we will have drinks, recap the day and unwind with the local Maasai. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Serengeti South – Serengeti Central

Today we’ll continue on North to the Central Serengeti. We’ll have action and wildlife the entire day. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch and continue on to our next luxury safari lodge. After our sunset cocktail, we’ll head back to the safari lodge and prepare for dinner. After dinner, we’ll bust out the tripods and shoot the stars and the amazing landscape under the night sky while enjoying drinks and conversation around the fire. (B, L, D)

Day 8: Serengeti Central – Arusha

After breakfast, we’ll have a morning game drive before we begin our journey back to Arusha. For those that want to relax you’re free to stay and enjoy the amenities the lodge offers. We’ll swing back and pick you up when we’re ready to depart. En route to Arusha, we’ll stop at an authentic Maasai village. Not a tourist trap fake village – the real deal.

NOTE: there are many Maasai villages on the way back to Arusha. These are tourist traps and the villages are purely for show. We will be visiting an Authentic Maasai Village that is actually lived in by the villagers. Our local guides will offer translation and we’ll have time to capture intimate portraits of some of the villagers.

After our cultural experience, we’ll head back to Arusha to our lodge. Once checked in, we’ll have time to relax, shower, and get ready for our farewell dinner and celebration. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Kilimanjaro Airport – Home

After breakfast, we’ll have our private driver transport you back to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) for your flight home. (B)

If you’d like to extend your trip and climb Kilimanjaro or explore the white sand beaches of Zanzibar, let us know. We can assist with your bookings and trip itinerary to ensure your additional time in Africa is as much epic as it is safe.

I want to reiterate that this adventure is not just for amateur photographers and enthusiasts who own a lot of photography gear. There’s an old saying and I’m not sure of the origin however it rings true to us –

“The best camera is the one you have with you.”

One can take excellent photos with today’s mobile devices IF one knows what they’re doing. Photography fundamentals such as lighting and composition apply no matter what camera or cell phone a person is using.

I promise you that your photography skills will improve and you’ll come away with amazing photos no matter what camera you decide to bring. That said, if you have gear bring it. Here’s an extensive list of gear I recommend…
